About

About WalkGlow: a footprint, a path, and a sunset

Look at the logo. A footprint, coloured like the sky between sunset and night, with a path running through it. That is the whole idea: one evening, one route, walked for someone.

What WalkGlow is

WalkGlow is a free planner and a library of guides for people organising charity glow walks: sponsored walks that set off at sunset and finish under lights. It is written for the volunteer who has just said "I'll organise it" and now has a blank page.

What it is not

WalkGlow is not a charity and does not collect or handle donations. It is not an events company and does not run walks. It does not replace your own risk assessment, your insurer, your landowner or your local authority. The guides are general information to help you ask those people the right questions.

What is coming

An event page for each walk, with sign-up and a live total, is on the roadmap. It is not built yet, and nothing on this site should be read as if it were.

Six beliefs behind every page

The cause comes first

A glow walk is a means. Every decision, from route to playlist, should make the cause clearer, not the event bigger.

Everyone finishes

If a grandparent, a buggy and a nervous first-timer cannot all complete it, the route is wrong.

Safe is not optional

Walking in low light is lovely and needs care. We put safety guidance ahead of decoration, every time.

Leave only footprints

Lights that are reused or collected. Nothing left on the path the next morning.

No invented numbers

The planner shows its working and the guides say when something is a rule of thumb. We do not quote statistics we cannot stand behind.
